Governors
The governing body is the school’s accountable body. It is responsible for the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards. The governing body aims to ensure that children are attending a successful school which provides them with a good education and supports their well-being. Its duties include:
- Setting strategic direction, policies and objectives
- Approving the school budget
- Reviewing progress against the school’s budget and objectives
- Appointing, challenging and supporting the headteacher.
Burgoyne’s Governors represent a diverse segment of the community from parents with children at Burgoyne, local business people, those holding positions of responsibility within the town and wider area and representatives from the school. Governors bring with them a wide range of skills from education, finance, planning, project management, health, training, PR and human resources to name a few. We take our responsibilities seriously and undertake regular training to ensure we are up to date with current legislation and practices.

Miss Emma Morris (Chair of Governors, Resources and Finance Group, Standards Committee) I became Chair of Governors in October 2010 and was delighted to be re-elected to this role in both 2011 and again in 2012. I became a community governor for Burgoyne in 2009 but have previously been a parent governor for Potton Lower School. I have a daughter who joinied Year 5 in September 2012. Career-wise I am a professional fundraiser and have worked for both national and international charities raising money for conservation, the environment, sustainable livelihoods and education. It was working for a literacy charity, helping children in deprived communities to become better readers, which got me interested in becoming a school governor. It is not by chance therefore I am the link governor for English. |

Mr Gary Gunn (Resources and Finance Group) I have been the PE Co-ordinator at Burgoyne since 2006. I teach all years and also act as the School Sports Co-ordinator for the East Beds Sports Partnership furthering our links with our four feeder lower schools Everton, Potton, Sutton and Wrestlingworth. I was elected in December 2011 by the staff onto the Board of Governors to representative their views and interests. This role also provides a very useful link to keep the staff involved and informed about important decisions. Cllr Mrs Anita Lewis (Chair of Standards Committee) After a career in several branches of education, in my retirement I missed the contact with young people and so joined the governing body nearly 20 years ago as an LA governor. During these years I have served on the committees as needed, including Vice Chair and Chairman of the governing body. I have seen many changes but would maintain that the challenges which face school communities have never been so great as they are today. I call upon my depth of knowledge when dealing with current situations. |
