French

At Burgoyne Middle School French is taught to all pupils. In Years Five and Six, learning is based largely on speaking and listening. Prior learning is revised and extended to enable all children to participate fully in lessons. There is an emphasis in games and songs which helps to build self confidence with oral work.

In Years Seven and Eight learning becomes more formalised and there is an increase in reading comprehension and written French. Grammar is taught more systematically to allow the pupils to manipulate the language for themselves.

Topic areas covered include:

  • Myself, my family and pets
  • My home and town
  • School
  • Free time and hobbies
  • Food and drink
  • Clothes and shopping
  • Planning a stay in France

There is a Year Eight residential trip to Le Touquet each June which enhances the pupils’ learning.
